A window will pop up telling you that a new plain text version of your document will be created, click OK. Then on your EndNote X9 menu, click on Tools > Convert to Plain Text.

Save a copy of your current document (so that you have the original document with all EndNote code in case you need to do further edits). This new copy of your Word document will retain all the citations and the bibliography, but will no longer be connected to your EndNote library or have code embedded within it.
